5 Steps to Find a GPS Tracker on Your Car

So you want to know how to tell if there is a GPS tracker on your car? With GPS tracking devices being easily available and dropping significantly in price for the regular consumer, combined with law enforcement's increasing use of them, many people come to us asking how to find a GPS tracking device on their car or vehicle.

Look around the exterior of the vehicle. One of the most common places for a GPS tracking device to be located is underneath a vehicle. If a GPS tracker is installed under a vehicle, it will likely be attached using a magnetic mount, so look for metal surfaces where a magnet could be attached.2

Look under the hood. While not a common place for portable/battery powered GPS tracking devices, many hardwired GPS tracking devices can be installed under the vehicle's hood. Open the hood, and look for any device that looks out of place. Hardwired GPS trackers will have at least one wire connecting it to the fuse box, while many hardwired trackers will have several different wires. 3
